When did I first come to realize that razor blades are just too expensive? It likely coincided with the introduction of multi-blade razors such as the Gillette Fusion that sports 5 blades and, in this case at least, more is definitely better. I had stayed with a two blade razor for a good few years but once tempted to try the 5 blade option I was sunk.
The US based Razorpedia blog has an interesting article on pricing and durability of various cartridge systems when compared with the two sided safety razor and the straight blade or ‘cut throat’ razor. That blog’s author, Brian, says on the ‘Why it Exists’ page:
‘For me, the issue has been both pricing and comfort. I cringe every time I hit the checkout counter with a pack of Gillette Fusion replacement blades, knowing that my wallet is about take a major hit. I’d be okay with this if my blades lasted for several weeks or months, but I’ve found that it’s just not the case.’
For me the answer is not to run out and buy a cut throat, not least because I might do myself a serious injury (there is only so much you can learn by watching videos of YouTube) but also because I can’t see myself getting through airport security without checking in a bag.
For me the answer is to make my chosen disposable last longer, much longer. After doing plenty of research and trying out various solutions we came up with the Stroppymoo. Affordable, portable, adorable! We believe this is a better way to manage the cost of expensive razor cartridges so you can have a better wet shaving experience for longer.
